Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) Magnet school with a diverse population that reflects Los Angeles County. Half of my students ride the bus in from various parts of Los Angeles County. Most of our school receive free or reduced price lunch.

My students are motivated and diligent students.

I not only have an ethnically diverse class, but I also have a class with varying academic abilities. I have students who have been identified with special needs as well as students who demonstrate strong academic capabilities. My students come with a keen interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Our school's goal is to prepare every child to be college and career ready, especially in the areas of STEAM.

My Project

My class recently received iPads, Dash Robots, Edison Bots and Makey Makeys to enhance our STEAM curriculum. We have limited means to charge our iPads and the robotics that we are so fortunate to have. We charge a few at a time and our iPads and robots are rotating to be charged. With the surge protectors, adapters and charging stations we can use our technology on a daily basis without worrying about running out of battery power!

My students are programmers and coders in training.

We have the tools, but we need more accessories to have consistent access to the technology that we are lucky to have. We can enhance our STEAM curriculum with the use of charging accessories and the white board. I plan on using the white board to help students troubleshoot during their programming. Students can work with me and their peers on the white board to write programs for their robots.
