My Students
My students are very creative and want to document their high school memories in their yearbook. My school does not have cameras. I lend my personal camera to my students when school events take place, however, this alone is not enough. They are not quite able to capture student life at our school.
Our high school is a small nurturing environment where students are expected to gain the skills necessary to compete in today's global economic market.
Students are taught the importance of contributing to their community as well as their academic endeavors.
Unfortunately, the students in our school struggle economically and do not have as many resources as they should. The students in my yearbook class are kind, funny and hard working. They have great energy and are excited to be a part of this class.
My Project
Two new digital cameras would make a world of a difference in the production of our yearbook. The cameras would allow my students to properly document students, events and activities in the school. My students have great ideas for themes and layouts. Since we do not have many photos, we have been researching/studying layouts and spreads in magazines in addition to writing poetry and stories about our memories. Many of the pages are designed and ready for photos.
My plan is to sign out the cameras to students on a daily basis. Once we acquire a large quantity of photos, we will place them in categories according to the themes of the pages. They consist of "hard at work", "in the halls", "after school", "hanging with teachers", "spirit week", "school dances" etc. Once completed, we will insert the photos in the appropriate layouts. Our yearbook will be awesome!
We all have a yearbook stashed somewhere and may not even look at it too often.
But, when we do, we remember details of our youth. It makes us reminisce and smile. My students would love to look back at their memories too.
