This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Were you ever nervous to go to school? Did you get butterflies in your stomach every time you heard, "Time for school!"? Well, that's exactly how students who are being bullied in school feel every time they hear the word "School."
I know of students that have even been followed home and confronted by their bully.
The only thing that saved them was when their grandma came out and yelled, "What's going on here?" How scary is that? This is why I am so adamant about making children, especially my students, aware of what a bully is, what to do when they are being bullied, and how to avoid turning into a bully themselves.
My students are English Language Learners attending a public school in California. Our school is a Title 1 school and the majority of the students qualify for free lunch. They come from low income families where both parents work in order to maintain their household. Since they are English Language Learners, they need as many visual aides and interactions when learning as possible to make their learning more meaningful and comprehensible.
My Project
With the 3 "Bullying in Schools" books you so will kindly donate to our classroom, my students will be able to read what a bully is, brainstorm strategies of how to deal with a bully, and create an individualized plan for themselves of what to do when being bullied. But most importantly, they will be able to evaluate whether they are a bully themselves. A lot of times children don't realize that they are bullies, but once they read about the different types of bullies that exist and the different characteristics and behaviors that define a bully they can stop themselves, at an early age, from becoming a lifelong bully or from being a bully's assistant.
With the iPad mini my students will be able to research the cause and effects of bullying and create anti-bullying electronic reports, using Story Kit, which they will present across grade levels to create school wide awareness and prevention of bullying.
With your generous donations, I will be able to teach students about bullying and the strategies that will prevent them from becoming a bully's victim.
This will enable them to attend school without the fear they will be attacked at school or on their way home. In turn, this will enable them to have a love for school and a clear mind for learning instead of on what will happen to them during recess, lunch, or afterschool. Children need to be worry free to learn! Thank You Donors in Advance!
