Help me give my students the Test of Early Communication and Emerging Language (TECEL), the Functional Communication Profile Revised (FCP-R), Early Functional Communication Profile (EFC), and an ipad mini.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are a diverse group of boys and girls with amazing personalities that blow us away every day. Our students live in the heart of a bustling urban center. They are primarily African-American and Latino. We are a special needs public school. We have students from all over our city who attend some of our special programs.
All of my students have special needs, many diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Multiple Disabilities.
Their communication skills range from non-verbal to just needing a few pragmatic tweaks. They are learning to communicate in their own ways as they learn not only life skills but academics as well.
My Project
Our speech program needs some new and updated assessment tools. We need the Test of Early Communication and Emerging Language (TECEL), the Functional Communication Profile Revised (FCP-R), Early Functional Communication Profile (EFC) They help us assess preverbal communication skills that children need to develop functional communication (for example: subtle changes in joint attention, social interaction, and communicative intent), inventory of a student's communication abilities, mode of communication, and degree of independence. These assessments can help us assess a range of students from the profoundly disabled to the moderately language impaired.
The best way to target exactly what each student needs and differentiate for their learning is by assessing them.
Good instruction evaluates first and sees where the students need help. we start from there when we teach. We also need an ipad mini for the newest therapist on our team. we want all of our students to have the same access to resources. Each of our other therapist have new ipad mini 4's that are used for assessments, AAC devices, and for activities that help target needs.
Our goal is to assess, instruct, and assess again to measure growth.
