I am a 3rd grade teacher that wants to broaden my student's world through TIME for Kids. Many of our students lack an interest in reading and we feel that TIME may capture those students. Please help us give our whole grade level that opportunity!
My school is made up of a variety of ethnic and economic backgrounds.
The poverty level is such, that our school provides a free breakfast to every student. Many are on free or reduced lunch. I have students who read from a 1st grade level, yet some are reading on a 5th grade level. Some don't have access to the Internet in their homes. There are many students who have never even left their surrounding neighborhood.
My Project
My students need TIME Magazine combo bundle. Remember the excitement of a Weekly Reader? It was always the best day to read the fun, short articles. This is what we want for our 3rd graders. We want them to feel the excitement of reading, exploring new areas, reading articles written for kids by kids. I have put a few of the TIME for Kids in my class library, and the students can't wait to read them. My hope is TIME for Kids will give the students who don't like to read, the desire to read in a different form then a normal book, while also opening a door to current events, and interest facts. Please help the 3rd grade team provide this to our students!
TIME for Kids will give my 3rd graders a new non-fiction text to read.
It will help them explore informational text in a new form and create and develop a desire to read. We will reinforce it by allowing them to explore TIME for Kids digitally also.
