Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach first grade in an inner city school in which more than 80% of the students are eligible for free lunch. My students are primarily English Language Learners and they work hard throughout the year to improve their reading and writing skills.

We currently write on paper that goes into folders and the paper often gets misplaced. The Draw and Write journals have lines made 'just right' for primary grade students. The notebooks also have space for a drawing or diagram.

My first graders need Writing Journals that allow them the lines and drawing space that they need to be creative. In the spring we'll be going for neighborhood walks, and the children will be able to write and draw their observations. We also plan to observe the life cycle of butterflies. The journals will allow them to write and draw! We need a powerful electric sharpener to keep our pencils at the ready!

Your generosity will allow my students to stay motivated to write through the end of the year with the beautiful journals! With the current economic situation, there are cutbacks to the education budget are dramatic. Without your support, my students will go without the Writing Journals. We will not have an electric sharpener in the classroom, which will slow us down in all subject areas. Last year my class used the Draw and Write Journals and they took them home in June as a treasured memento for their families!
