Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

First graders are budding authors and illustrators. With the right materials, they can blossom from September to June. Becoming fluent readers and writers doesn't take magic - but students need appropriate chart paper, colorful paper, and markers for creating charts.

I teach twenty-seven first graders in a K-8 urban school.

My students will be together until they go to high school so we are truly a community of learners. Students help each other when needed, cheer on success, and are excited to learn. We are a culturally diverse group and we learn from each other every day. Every day my students so-create charts about books we read, write poems, create charts to get our ideas flowing, and share math ideas. As long as we we have paper and markers, the ideas can be shared and posted in the classroom for reference.

My Project

The chart papers and markers will allow my first graders continue to share ideas with each other. We often create charts that show such things as Main Idea and Details, Venn Diagrams comparing book characters, and list word families. We also show our math work on charts every day! Children work in groups to draw and create posters about topics of interest. We are quickly running out of paper and markers! When my students work hard on their writing, we display it on the bulletin board. The colorful paper will make the students' work "pop"! I can also use the card stock paper to create "center activities". It is perfect for such use when laminated. The toner will keep the classroom copier working. This will prevent any tears when there is only one copy left and three are needed.

This project will allow my students to continue to share their ideas on chart paper with colorful markers.

The card stock is perfect for projects and center activities. Due to drastic budget cuts, we are in need of these materials! Please help my students get the materials they need to be able to share their ideas with each other!
