This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Miss, do you have any colored pens I can use?" "Do you have any pencils?" Without fail, these are some of the most frequently asked questions in my classroom.

At my high-needs school, most students qualify for the free lunch program, meaning they are unable to obtain the most basic school supplies, such as pens and pencils.

My students are a bright, enthusiastic group of individuals who genuinely enjoy learning. It saddens me that they often go without their much-needed school supplies.

My Project

For this project, I am requesting a variety of pens, pencils, and highlighters for students to use in our English class. Students will use the colored pens for annotations and color-coding ideas and literary devices. Pencils are always needed for projects and for marking in our books safely (ones that have been donated). Highlighters are also an important tool for encouraging close-reading and for annotations. The erasable highlighters are especially helpful as some students reconsider their choices or choose another element.

While these supplies might seem too basic, they ensure all students have the "write" materials to conduct close-reading and annotating -- key skills in any English class.
