My students need folders to keep their papers in, access to basic tools used in education (pencil sharpeners, staplers, basic calculators for Economics) and also tools to help them learn.
I teach in an Minneapolis high school. These students are passionate, fun and inspiring. Many of my students are low income students, where over 90% of our population qualify for free and reduced lunch. I have seen students get jobs and then give their paychecks to their parents, or help cover certain household bills. More than once, I've been impressed with their resiliency, and travel over an hour on public transportation one way to get to a job to earn money. My students are struggling in many areas, but continue to have the ability to strive and attain a high school diploma. Please help me get supplies for them to be as successful as they possibly can!
My Project
My students need organization tools such as folders and highlighters to help with their learning. I teach Economics and many of my students have trouble with basic calculations and do not have cell phones. I really tried to think about what I really wanted for my classroom to get us moving, and this is my 6th year of teaching. I've always wanted to have formative assessments using white boards, but I don't have them. I am a Hollyhock Fellow at Stanford, so I am invested in teaching and being the best possible teacher I can be for these students. Please help me get the basic tools I need to do so, without me going broke. I greatly appreciate the support, and so do my students!!
