Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
What child do you know can resist the many wonderful colors that can be seen in any picture book? The students in this community have not ever seen any of the technological advances that exist in the world regarding literature. They need to be a part of the 21st Century.
My students live in an impoverished area and attend a Title 1 school where access to current technology is limited.
They receive free lunches and sometimes need basic things, such as uniforms, backpacks and school supplies. They are first graders whose eyes light up when they use our outdated computers or when listening to a story while sitting on a carpet.
My Project
I am simply requesting two Barnes and Nobles Nooks for the classroom. This will give students access to a variety of media, beside the paperback books and the computer screens. When asked if anyone in my class knew what a tablet was, 100% of the class did not know. These young minds need exposure to what is available in our society.
This project is important because no child should be left behind.
Our students have been left behind. They deserve to have the same type of exposure to technology as those who live in an affluent society. Donations will be greatly appreciated, as students will be exposed to a whole new world of literature, and the possibilities that life can hold for their future.
