Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My school is a urban low socioeconomic school. Demographically, our school has a high number of diverse and ESL students. Many of the students are struggling to learn math fundamentals and grasping new concepts.

Our classroom rules is to use perseverance and teamwork to help learn concepts.

I want the students to know that is okay to make a mistake! This is how we learn! And if we do make a mistake other students should help that student correct it. Because I believe sometimes it better to hear from the students than the teacher.

My Project

In beginning of the year, I was given 32 graphing calculators by the school administration. Last week, I started using them with students to help enhance there understanding of algebra 2 concepts. However, 18 of them do not work even with new batteries!

Presently, our school is in Turnaround status.

Our focus is to improve academic performance/attendance and finding opportunities to show students how math relates to the real world. We need these calculators to show that! If you want students to improve you have to give them the necessary materials. We need your help, donors, to help get these students where they need to be. You will be doing a great service to those students and especially to ones with college aspirations.
