My Students

In a nation with obesity rates rising my goal as a PE specialist is to get my students moving! Music is an integral part of inspiring students to move. Can you imagine going for your daily run or workout without music? I know how much music can enhance the learning environment.

My students are grades k-6 and as the PE specialist I have the honor of teaching them all.

They are excited to learn new things. We are a Title 1 school in a high poverty area. Our school services students from 50 different cultures. Many students are English Language Learners. Few who speak little or no English, music is the common language that ties us all together. Despite these challenges our school has received Highly Distinguished School award for the past 5 years.

My Project

I am asking for an iPad mini with a case, cover and protection plan and 2 iPod nanos. These resources will be used everyday in every class that enters the gym. There is always appropriate music playing while students are engage in activities. Music serves as a time management tool, an instructional source and a motivator that helps to create a positive and enjoyable learning space for students. There are countless apps on the iPad that are specific for PE classrooms and my students can benefit from the exposure to these and being able to actively engage with them. They will learn to monitor and track their physical activity levels. They will also learn how to make healthy choices for the rest of their lives. Exercise paired with music will improve the student's brain activity levels, making them ready to learn when they go back to their classrooms.

These donations will improve my classroom by motivating over 600 students to get physically fit!

By getting that 30 minutes a day of physical activity in it will increase their ability to learn. Healthy students don't miss days of school. Everyday in school is another opportunity for learning to take place. For some students in my school this is the only chance they get to do something good for their body. I want to make PE a class they want to come to and enjoy getting physically fit.
