Technology has revolutionized the way we think, work, and play. When integrated into the curriculum, it can revolutionize the learning process and outcomes. Most of my students do not have access to technology. This could be the year that magic happens as they fall in love with innovative learning!
My students come from a variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Many of my students are English language learners or have speech and language needs. The school that my students attend is located in the downtown district of a major California city. The majority of my students receive free or reduced price lunch. Despite the odds that my students have against them, they are incredibly resilient and are eager to learn.
My Project
I am requesting two iPads with protective cases for our classroom literacy centers. One iPad can be used by up to 2 students at a center, where they can learn together using the latest, most innovative reading, math, science, and critical-thinking applications. We live in a digital world, and my students need exposure to technology and digital learning. iPads are instantly engaging to young children and make learning exciting to them! And there are iPad applications that "meet children" at their current skill level, push them to the next level, track their growth, and provide valuable assessment data to the teacher.
Interactive applications provide a "digital tutor" for students who need targeted help.
This allows me be a more effective teacher because I can provide focused attention to one group of students while another group receives the practice and support they need via digital applications. These applications also make it possible for me to assess skills quickly and plan for intervention or extension activities to ensure that every student is learning and growing toward meeting Common Core Standards.
