This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When was the last time you did something on the computer? In our class we have not been able to do any technology other than listen to our songs because we don't have technology that works in our classroom.

My students are ages 4-5 in Pre-K.

All of the students in my classroom are considered socially disadvantaged. Our school is considered a very high poverty rate school. My students have a great love for school already, and I need to be able to build upon what we already do; but I can not at this time because I as the teacher have not been given technology that works and don't have the personal funds to get what we need. The couple of times we have gone to my partners' room to do something with the classes together on her technology, the students have retained and blossomed greatly. I know my students all learn in a variety of ways--some visually, some hands on, and some by audio; but right now, I can't give them the visual because our laptop does not work.

My Project

There are so many web/computer resources that could benefit my students greatly in the way they are learning the ground-floor basics of the alphabet, numbers, shapes, and colors. Without the the solid, ground-floor basics, they will set up for failure in the future. So I am asking for the tools to help them bloom and become the great learners that I know they can be: My students need a dependable laptop and projector in our classroom. I would love for them to be able to go to the laptop and interact with the websites while their peers watch and learn from them. For example, there are sites that will work on letter matching and recognition that we can project onto the board for everyone to see.

Right now my students' families don't have the funds to have technology at home so it is my responsibility to make sure they get it at school.

With the help of donors this will be possible. I know they will grow leaps and bounds with the use of technology in our classroom. There would be things we can't do in the classroom that we could view on the websites and project for them to see... for example, during a unit of seasons we could do a virtual field trip to see snow and fall.
