Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have come into high school behind grade level but these students are not quitters. We have a strong culture of achievement and encourage all students to prepare for and apply to college.
Were you to walk down the halls of my school, you might think you are in the United Nations.
We have students from five continents (and more than that from a number of islands) representing a diverse array of languages and cultures. My students are a mix of new immigrants and native-born Americans. All of them want to succeed.
My Project
It seems so simple; students need a place to store their binders so they can have easy access to their past work and current projects. But my room has no such storage area. I moved rooms this year, and lost the bookshelves I had in my old space.
The bulk of this project is requesting some wire rack shelving units for my students to store binders in.
The units I selected are short, so they'll fit underneath the chalk tray of the installed chalkboards. These should give us enough linear feet of shelf space that the students in all my classes can have easy access to store and retrieve their materials.
I am also requesting a battery charger. I switched to NiMH batteries for most of our electronic equipment, but our old charger overheated and needs to be replaced.
