Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The student population at my school is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. Over 80% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language. I see about a thousand students every week, from Kindergarten to grade five.
My school is located in one of the poorest areas of the state; our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates.
All of the students receive free or reduced lunch at some of them even go home without food on the weekends.
My Project
Last year, I had a funded project for Mr. Sketch smelly markers. I thought it would be fun just to order a few packs to try them out. The new "Smelly markers" (aka Mr. Sketch scented markers) were a hit. Now, students don't want to use the old markers and simply want everything to smell! My kids loved them! We use the supplies during group work and art projects. The resources kept my students engaged at all times, and I love the different colored noses I see from all the smelling going on during class. My students need 2 class sets of Mr. Sketch smelly markers for art class.
I know that my students deserve the best resources and this is why I am seeking a class set of Mr. Sketch scented markers that they can utilize on all group work projects.
