Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are Title 1 sixth graders at a school in Sparks, Nevada. All students receive free lunch and breakfast and many stay to eat dinner after school as well. A high percentage of my students are bilingual, English Language Learners (ESL). They are learning required grade level material everyday, with the added roadblock of a language barrier.
As sixth graders, they are learning skills that are getting them college and even career ready.
One of the truly nice things about my school is that it really is a neighborhood school. It is relatively small with less than 400 students so it is like a large family. The students come to school hungry to learn. We work hard from the moment we arrive until the bell rings and it is time to go home.
My Project
Part of being a good student is the ability to stay focused on the task at hand. Having these privacy shields will allow my students to remain focused on what they are working on and not have to worry about other eyes on their work.
With 30 students in the classroom, it is hard to find space for everyone to stay focused on their own work.
These privacy shields will allow them to focus and be in control of their own learning. They will use these folders during their writing time and during weekly reading and math assessments. I want them to feel that they have their own personal space to focus and learn.
