This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am writing this proposal for my high school vocal students who participate in our Intermediate and Advanced Choirs. Our high school serves a large urban area and has a high percentage of students that are low-income.
Many of our students are highly interested and motivated in their study of vocal music.
One of the major obstacles that my students face is the reality that they cannot afford private music instructors. We have many talented students who often cannot afford to purchase the music that they need to reach higher levels of success. As a result, our music program must provide them with appropriate music and opportunities to experience and learn high quality vocal repertoire. If our program does not provide our students with these learning opportunities, it is possible that they will never be able to experience significant success at music festivals and college auditions.
My Project
We need resources to build our student repertoire library. We want our students to have access to great works of vocal music that they can listen to and learn for festivals, solo contests and college auditions. This will result in significant academic benefits to my students. Many of them are interested in pursuing the study of music at the college level. We need a music library that my students can use to select music that they think is exciting, compelling and appropriate for their level of learning. Participating in varied musical settings with standard high quality repertoire will be a great help to my students as they strive to be successful in their musical endeavors.
