This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Classroom management is key to successful teaching. I am requesting a Yacker Tracker and 5 digital timers to allow my students to work efficiently in our art room. Only seeing the students 35 times a year for 50 minutes is hard so we need some new tools to utilize our art class, every second counts!
I am the art specialist in a K-5 Arts school.
We are located in one of the poorest rural areas of the state. Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. I see about 975 students every week, from Kindergarten though grade five. All of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The student population is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. About 70% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language.
My Project
With the Yacker Tracker, once I set the noise limit, I can turn the enforcement over to the students. The Yacker Tracker will let them know when they are getting too loud. The Yacker Tracker looks similar to a a stoplight, green, yellow and red. The desired volume level is green, yellow means they are getting a bit too noisy, and red means "to loud". The device can be adjusted to reflect the appropriate volume. Not only will students learn appropriate classroom volume during group work, but I will spend my time working with students instead of monitoring the noise.
I am also requesting visual timers, one for each table, for students to work during class. This way students will be able to manage their own time time. This easy to program timer will allow me to program green, yellow and red sections with 6 sound effects easily to indicate that time is running out allowing students to efficiently manage art class!
It is a win-win situation.
With your help, I can put more of the classroom responsibilities in the hands of the students. And it is not just me who will thank you. Every teacher after me, from first grade on, will appreciate students who can work cooperatively with quiet voices! You will be thanked for your donation for years to come!
