My Students
Do you remember how fun it was to color with colored pencils in art class? How about shading and blending them to make new colors? Well, unfortunately, my students only have gray pencils and we need to make our world colorful!
I am the art specialist in a K-5 Arts school.
We are located in one of the poorest rural areas of the state. Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. I see about 975 students every week, from Kindergarten though grade five. All of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The student population is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. About 70% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language.
My Project
Colored pencils and markers...what could be more basic? We create realistic portraits, surrealism and perspective almost everyday. Students blend and mix materials they never thought about mixing. Help us give color to their ideas. I am asking for one set of colored pencils for every student to work on during art class.
The new "Smelly markers" (AKA Mr. Sketch scented markers) are a huge hit in my classroom. My kids simply love them! We use the supplies during group work and art projects. The resources kept my students engaged at all times and I love the different colored noses I see from all the smelling going on during class. My students need 2 class sets of Mr. Sketch smelly markers for art class.
Your donations are appreciated now, more than ever.
I currently have no budget this year for having almost 1,000 students. Art is an area that is cut first, and often the deepest. Students who take art become more creative in their other classes and often do better in them as well. Thank you for taking considering my project.
