Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The student population at my school is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. Over 80% of the students in my room are learning English as a Second Language. I see about a thousand students every week, from kindergarten to grade five.
My school is located in one of the poorest areas of the state.
Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. All of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch, and some of them even go home without food on the weekends.
My Project
Many of my students come from low-income homes with two working parents. Therefore, I feel its my duty to not only teach my students basic skills, but to also teach them skills such as compassion and organization. Our classroom is a second home for my students, all 971 of them, and I want them to feel comfortable to learn. They should feel as though the classroom is theirs, not just mine. With these colored coded bins students will be able to easily find and access scraps to make paper pulp. They will also be able to learn better in a more organized, efficient classroom environment. With your help, my students will be able to have an organized learning environment to recycle their paper scraps.
Best of all these trays will be used for many years, so your contribution will have a far-reaching impact on the students in my school and community.
It will give us a place to store our important items so they do not get lost in the shuffle of our daily classroom life!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
