My Students
The 28 multicultural children that I spend most of my day with are extremely hard working and come to school each day to do their absolute best. Although our classroom has the bare minimum, in terms of supplies and equipment, my students make the best out of so little. It makes me feel extremely privileged to be their teacher. The children have also formed a bond with each other that goes beyond the walls of the classroom. They are very helpful to each other, and the first ones to finish an assignment are also the first ones to want to help their classmates. My students are also a very "giving" group. Although most of their families do not have funds to spare, the children recently emptied their own piggy banks to help raise money for little boys and girls with cancer.
My Project
Donating to this project will help my students who have tactile problems be able to see and feel the letters of the alphabet. Some of my students have serious reading disabilities, and need to be instructed in different ways. Oral, visual, and tactile are three of the ways a teacher can help her students learn and remember their letters and words. Also, with having English as a Second Language learners next year, the Play Doh and alphabet stampers will be a great way for them to see and feel the words they are learning.
I plan to use these materials as independent work after my students have received instruction.
They will be able to go to a certain table in the room, and create words that the class is working on any particular week. For example, if we are concentrating on words that have "ea" in the middle, they can make words like break, steak, and bread. This will be a great way for the children to continue their learning of phonics by seeing and feeling the letter patterns.
