My Students

Please help my first graders practice reading at home!

Our school is considered a large inner-city school in California.

We have over 1000 students ranging from pre-K to fifth in both regular and special day classes. Most of our students are identified as economically disadvantaged and all of our students participate in the National Free Lunch Program. Our class consists of 19 first grade students. Among them, 12 students are English Learners. All of the students are eager learners and they fill up the classroom with excitement and energy everyday.

My Project

We need paper to make copies of take-home reading books. Our new reading program does not come with "take-home" books but instead, there are master pages that we make copies of. Since my students are first graders, they learn everything they need in order to be fluent readers in class however, learning how to read cannot happen without practice. To practice reading at home, my students need reading materials that focus on target sounds that they are learning. Due to budget cuts, paper for books is not available or provided by the school anymore.

I cannot stress enough the importance of take-home books for my students to practice reading.

Most of my students do not have the resources at home to practice their reading skills so the copies they take home will benefit greatly to help them learn. Won't you join me in creating lifelong readers with a small donation?
