Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our dchool is the only elementary to have a Mariachi band. The group consists of 30 dedicated students who practice once a week to learn classic Spanish songs. The students are very eager to learn how to play an instrument and learn how to sing.
Our school is a Title I school in which all the students receive free lunch and are also provided breakfast in the classroom to get their day started.
Many of the students live in very small apartments with multiple families living together. School becomes a second home for many of the students and they feel safe and happy to be at school every day and they really enjoy practicing their music and performing in different venues around the city.
My Project
Our Elementary Mariachi is in need of twelve new music stands for rehearsals and community events. The students practice after-school twice a week for two hours. The majority of our music stands are starting to break and it makes it difficult for the students to keep their music notebooks on the stands without falling during the performances.
During the school year, the students get invited to many community events and we would like to have twelve new music stands for special events.
The music stands will all open quicker and it will be easy to store them in our closet.
