Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In my classroom, I try to not only teach my students academic lessons, but life lessons as well. However, we need a lesson on how to get organized and efficient. Can you help?
I am the art specialist in a K-5 Arts school.
We are located in one of the poorest rural areas of the state. Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. I see about 971 students every week, from kindergarten though grade five. All of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The student population is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. About 70% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language.
My Project
Many of my students come from low-income homes with two working parents. Therefore, I feel its my duty to not only teach my students basic skills, but to also teach them skills such as compassion and organization. Our classroom is a second home for my students, all 971 of them and I want them to feel comfortable to learn. They should feel as though the classroom is theirs, not just mine. With this communication center, the students will be able to easily find and access whatever they need. They will also be able to learn better in a more organized, efficient classroom environment. The colored bins will make it fast, easy and efficient for students to know what supplies to get and when to get them. With six tables and roughly 50 students in a class, we need to organize and color code our supplies, so we know what belongs to whom!
With your help my students will be able to have an organized learning environment.
Best of all this communication center will be used for many years, so your contribution will have a far-reaching impact on the students in my school and community. Also, the colored bins will make it extremely easy for tables to know what supplies belong to them. It will give us a place to store our important items, so they do not get lost in the shuffle of our daily classroom life!
