This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a special education teacher. I teach second grade at a Title I public school in The Bronx, New York. My school is near and dear to me because it is my alma mater. It gives me great fulfillment and joy to serve in the very same community that I attended school. It warms my heart to serve and give back to my community. I teach a program called Horizon, tailored to proving specialized academic and social-emotional learning to students on the autism spectrum. My students are amazingly unique, enthusiastic learners and they have creative imagination.

My Project

My students are fascinated with reading Mo Willems books! It keeps them highly engaged and interested in reading. Having these books in our library will increase their love for reading! It will also make it easily accessible in the classroom for them to read at any time. They will also benefit from me reading aloud, read independently and buddy reading with these books. This is wonderful because it will motivate them to be involved in their reading. A few of my students are struggling readers and having Mo Willems books will boost their confidence and help increase their reading fluency.
