My students need 150 copies of "To Kill a Mockingbird" for their very own so they can read independently.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Boo Radley. Remember him? The most interesting character in the book who turns out to be one of the best characters ever created that turns out to be the most unlikely hero. We don't have enough books for my students and if we do the books are falling apart due to wear.
The students are 9th graders who attend a very large public school.
They are in their first year of high school. Due to wear because every freshman (the freshmen class is the largest) read this novel, the novels are trashed and need replacing. There is no money whatsoever to replace for newer versions so I have to ask for outside help.
My Project
This book is one of the best books written. Every 9th grader reads this classic. They learn about the Dust Bowl, the Scotsborro trails, discrimination, and so much more. These are just background knowledge which does not include all the anatomy that English teachers teach with character development, plot, setting, etc. that we do when we teach this book. You can teach so many things from this novel that is required to read in the 9th grade. The only problem is the conditions we have on this novel. The students will not be able to rely to read accurately if a page or two is missing. Or just falling apart.
Help me get these books.
This will impact future students and with the economy being the way it is in California, who knows when we will get the money to get newer books.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
