My Students
I am an AIS teacher located in the Bronx, New York City. I teach eager kindergarten, first and third grade children who are struggling readers and writers. My students are devoted to learning but need a different approach toward their education. They need small group instruction that uses many types of manipulatives.
When my children are successful, the look of wonder in their eyes is a sight to behold.
It is truly what makes being a teacher the best job in the world.
My Project
During the course of the year I like to give workshops on reading. I have some parents attend, but not many. This year I would like to invite parents with their children. I feel having children attend will make my workshops authentic.
Only one problem, I need materials that everyone can use to see and understand the reading process.
I would love to have a mobile library cart with book bins. I imagine all my materials organized and easily accessible. The magnetic letters will definitely enable parents and their children to write interesting sentences without the burden of spelling. Plus, they are color coded so they will be aware if they are missing a noun or verb.
