This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember your first piece of printed published work? My students need ink in order to publish their typed writing. Our printer needs ink in order for them to do so.
I work in the South Bronx teaching sixth grade ELA at a middle school where 98% of the students receive free lunch.
It is difficult for them to bring classroom supplies, let alone help for the extra things we need in class. We complete tons of projects using Microsoft Office software and PowerPoint that require printing, so funding this project will be a huge help!
My Project
I am requesting 10 ink cartridges to print their published and researched work. Getting copies back in a timely manner in our school is almost impossible. It is by no means the fault of our school, but sometimes people put in huge requests and it is impossible to get back my own copies for days. My students need ink for our copy machine so that that can publish their typed word document and PowerPoint work. This will in turn give my students a sense of accomplishment. It would also build their confidence as writers and provide them with the opportunity to see and share their work in print. I would definitely consider myself, at times, a spur of the moment teacher. If an assignment sounds fun that a student has found in a book, I love to do it if I can. But sometimes that requires copies being made and I have no instant access to ink for our copy machine. Anything that I do want copied requires approval and must be submitted in advance, so it makes things really difficult.
Having access to ink will help students to print their published work, meet their technology goals, and complete other related assignments for the 2014-2015 school year.
Having a ink for our copy machine will help us stay on track with testing and assessment and also allow us to do those really cool student discovered or spur of the moment projects, that they always beg me to do. It would be such an amazing gift.
