My Students
Reading is the basis of everything that we do in our daily lives. Imagine that you could only read the way that a 7 year-old could read. Think about how hard life might be for you. My students are struggling readers and must take a state reading test this year for the first time.
I teach an amazing class of special needs students in a low-income neighborhood.
Many of my students are struggling readers due to various learning disabilities, but still have to take the state reading test. How are students, some of whom read at a first or second grade level, supposed to take a test written for on-level third graders?
My Project
I want to try to do everything in my power to prepare my students for the world and for this upcoming test. The resources that I have requested will help them to master the basics of reading. These resources include 1 Common Core Learning Centers set, 1 small group reading kit, 2 sets of giant magnetic punctuation marks and a test-taking strategies CD-ROM. Once they have mastered these basics, they will flourish in no time! By the time the test rolls around, my students will be super readers, able to easily live in a world where reading is a necessity.

Each of my students has his or her own special story and I must adjust my lessons accordingly. These resources will help to reach and teach all of my incredibly diverse 3rd graders.
