Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students reside in a low socio-economic community. Most of them don't have the means to purchase the academic tools necessary for success in high school. The majority would be the first in their family to attend college and they aspire to this goal. After working in this community, I see the struggle and the anxiety that many of them experience when they are about to take the next step in their academic career, realizing that they may not. have the important skills to excel in the competitive college acceptance process. All they need is an equal opportunity to get the same preparation that other more affluent students receive. I am confident that if they get the help they need, they will become productive and successful adults.
My Project
Our school population consists of students who will probably be the first in their family to attend college. Our focus this year is to provide as much intervention for our students to be fully prepared for the SAT and ACT testing. Their families cannot afford to send them to expensive prep classes or hire tutors. Any additional resources would afford our students an opportunity to be competitive with students in communities that have a higher economic status. If our students were to receive this computer program, Albert big Classroom, they would be able to practice the important mathematical concepts both in school and at home. It would offer them the ability to work at their own pace and keep track of their progress. It would allow teachers to see where students need the most assistance. I am sure that if they get this help, they would be able to achieve their goal of a higher score and more opportunities to go to the college of their choice.
