My Project

My students are curious, thoughtful learners who thrive when given the chance to engage deeply with meaningful stories. In our classroom, we strive to build not just literacy, but empathy—by exploring diverse voices and perspectives that reflect the world around us and the world we hope to build.

To support this work, we are requesting durable headphones.

These headphones will allow my students to listen to audiobooks and multimedia stories that highlight racial justice, cultural identity, and the fight for equity. We use a variety of age-appropriate, engaging audio resources that center historically underrepresented voices—from stories about the civil rights movement to contemporary narratives of young people making a difference in their communities.

Access to quality headphones will ensure each student can focus and learn at their own pace, especially in a shared learning environment where background noise can be distracting. Whether a student is listening to a book about their identity, Ruby Bridges, or a personal story from a young activist today, these headphones will help bring those voices directly and clearly to them.

By hearing these powerful stories, my students will not only strengthen their literacy skills, but also develop a deeper understanding of justice, identity, and the importance of standing up for what’s right. These stories make abstract concepts real, fostering critical thinking, compassion, and connection.

I am also requesting a book about identity from one of our favorite authors. Thank you for helping us create a classroom where every voice is heard—and every student learns to listen with their hearts and minds.
