This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students come from one of the most economically distressed parts of our city. Everyday, they overcome challenges in their community, families and their individual lives. These challenges include single parent (or even "zero" parent) homes, violence, poverty and discrimination.

Despite the fact that they face many obstacles, they are determined to get the education that will lift them out of poverty and set them on the path to new horizons.

They need to have a rich background of literacy and critical thinking to successfully complete their journey.

My Project

My students use Chromebooks and laptops for learning. Sometimes they will need to listen to a lesson individually. For example, students will have a "Ted Talk" lesson that requires them to listen for information and instructions.

Headphones will allow students to work at their own place on audio lessons without disturbing other students.

I have chosen headphones that are inexpensive, yet functional. I believe these will serve my students well for their self-paced learning activities.

Literacy in our time comes in many forms other than print. These headphones will increase our ability to use non-text based literacy, giving my students important twenty-first century, critical reading and thinking skills.
