My Students
Reading aloud to preschoolers is an important building block in teaching children to read. Reading aloud builds skills like vocabulary recognition, comprehension, and print awareness. It also provides children with a model of expressive, fluent reading and helps them develop a love of books.
Providing an opportunity for my students to develop a love of reading is so important to me and I need your help to bring classic preschool books to my classroom.
Hi, I am a veteran special education teacher who is now working with special needs preschool and kindergarten students. I serve the sweetest little children who are diagnosed with disabilities that include Developmental Delays, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Learning Disabilities, and Other Health Impairments. Since I just became their teacher I want to do everything I can to set up an awesome classroom read aloud library that serves all their needs. I hope I can count on your help.
My Project
My students need great books like Corduroy, The Pokey Puppy, Good Night Moon and 32 other Classic Children's stories for me to read aloud. These books will help us to create a Lap Book to take home and share with friends and family. LAP books help children review what they learned from that story. Lap books are file folders in which the student stores paper manipulatives that are customized to emphasize the subject of the book. The book and lessons are designed with simplicity in mind. The lessons will gently help my students grow academically, yet still be enjoyable. These classic books and accompanying LAP books are a perfect introduction to literature-based unit studies for my young special needs students.
Won't you help me bring classic early childhood books and literature to my classroom and my students.
These books have LAP books created to reinforce early childhood literacy skills at home. Won't you help me create this home to school connection with my special needs preschool and Kindergarten students.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
