Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk into the classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything. I want them to be successful in school and in everyday life.
I teach at a Title I school in Kentucky where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
70% of my class are English language learners who love to come to school. Many of my students receive backpacks of food on the weekend and come from a very low socioeconomic homes. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they will be successful one day.
My Project
My students are in need of new desktop computers. The computers we have now are about 20 years old and are not efficient. Sometimes they work sometimes they do not.
My students need desktop for Tier 2 instructions.
There are numerous learning games that track their progress you can use for interventions. Students are learning at their pace while having fun. They use the desktops several times a day to complete assignments for writing. The students are typing their writing pieces as their 5th grade standard requires them to do. In addition, it is a place for resources. When they are not sure what something looks like (mostly my ESL students) they look it up on the computer. We are also required to do research with them and the internet is a perfect spot for them.
The newer desktops will enable my students to do their assignments in a timely fashion. Instead of waiting 15 minutes for the desktop to load up this would be 15 more minutes of learning. What teacher would not love for more learning!
