My Students
Tell me and I will forget. Show me and I will remember. Involve me and I will understand. Step back and I will act.-Chinese Proverb. Have you ever heard this quote? It describes our school day to a tee! Involving students with hands-on and relevant activities is imperative in today's world.
When you come into our classroom, you will see 27 bright and smiling faces, no matter what is going on around them.
My students are eager to please, enthusiastic about everything they do, and work hard to get from point A to point B. No matter what you put in front of them, my students diligently complete the task to its fullest extent. In our classroom, my students come from homes that are low socioeconomic homes. They are constantly striving to think critically and creatively, regardless of how their day started or ended the day before. Through the use of games, this task is accomplished, and they aren't even fully aware of that! That's how amazing they are. Even though we attend a low-socioeconomic school and my students are not always well-off, you will never see them frown, and they will always handle each task handed to them with their heads held high and their eyes always lit up.
My Project
My students need items to help define their creative and critical thinking skills. The core curriculum (ELA, Math, Science, and SS) requires a lot from students. Because of that, students sometimes just need the opportunity to enjoy a "brain break" and play a game like Farkle or Jenga (that, in turn, will continue to help them learn at the same time!) every now and then. To accomplish these brain breaks, my idea was to integrate these educational, critical thinking games (like Math Noodlers, 7 Ate 9, etc.) into the classroom environment. Students will learn invaluable skills while utilizing these games, such as communication skills, interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, healthy competition between classmates, and other types of skills. We are constantly looking for ways to engage ourselves in our learning and ways to grow, and I believe that these critical thinking and creative thinking games will help my students learn in more ways than one.
This project will change my classroom because my students will have the ability to play critical thinking and creative thinking games that help directly improve their creative and critical thinking.
This will overflow into the daily classroom activities we complete. Their focus and ability to complete their work will likely improve, which will then improve behavior and their grades, which will improve motivation and confidence! This project will make a world of difference in their daily lives.
