This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend an elementary school in Kensington. These children live in a rough, crime-ridden neighborhood. One hundred percent of the students at my school receive free breakfast and lunch every day. Despite all of this, they come to school every day still eager to learn. Many of our parents struggle to purchase the school supplies their children need for school. I wish to make the stressful supply-buying time for families easier, by having supplies in my classroom for students to be able to use daily.
My Project
My students need a fun, interesting novel to read. Freckle Juice by Judy Blume will be a great and entertaining book for my students to read. We will also complete book reports and displays showing various scenes of the novel. Freckle Juice is a great novel that will help my students develop a love for reading.
It will help my students gain the skills necessary to become better active - lifelong readers.
This will give my students the chance to read a novel that is funny but also teaches a very valuable lesson. What better book for 4th graders to read this school year!
I am also asking for bookmarks, pencils and erasers. This will allow my students to keep track of their place in Freckle Juice. Lastly, my classroom is in need of a pencil sharpener.
