I teach students with autism in kindergarten through second grades in a high poverty school. As a teacher in a low-income school, my students face many struggles outside of school. All of the students at my school receive free lunches due to the poverty level, and because of this many of them are not able to experience things that many take for granted.
My students are silly, energetic, and love school.
We are in a self-contained school with students with autism ranging from kindergarten to 22 years old. We depend a lot on the use of visuals in the classroom to help the children be successful in their day. The students I serve have varying levels of skills and needs. My students need sensory support, visual support, and picture cues to be successful.
My students are eager about learning and love coming to school!
My Project
The Bean bag chair helps to manage difficult situations in the classroom . It provides an opportunity for them to relax and calm down when they are tired and stressed out. Some times it will be used for their independent work like book reading & other fun activities. Also we use this bean bag chair time as a reward after completing their assigned tasks.
Students will have more choose in where they would like to complete their work in the classroom.
More choices mean happy students who want to complete their work.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
