Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a high poverty neighborhood with a very diverse range of home structures: nuclear, single parent, foster and migrant, to name a few.
My students love to be at school and enjoy learning, especially when the activities are hands-on.
Many of my students are English language learners who attend a public school in the South Central Los Angeles area. They are always excited to experience any kind of technology that I'm able to bring to my class.
My Project
My students are in need of 24 rechargeable batteries for our existing Vex IQ Robotics Construction sets. My 4th and 5th-grade Robotics Club students are currently using non-rechargeable batteries. Each robotics kit uses six double AA batteries per kit, which costs about $5-$6. However, the batteries do not last very long and need to be changed frequently. The rechargeable batteries are beneficial because it teaches students the responsibility of making sure they charge the batteries on the days our Robotics Club meets. This year our 5th graders will compete, therefore these materials will allow students to practice competing without having to worry about the double AA batteries dying.
