Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every school day provides new experiences for my students and they are always eager to learn more about the world around them. Students come into kindergarten at all different levels but need to leave equally prepared for first grade. Our classroom needs the resources to make this happen!

My students are inquisitive and energetic individuals who bring excitement to each day.

They love to work and play together and are building the foundation for a lifetime of learning. The hard-working staff and caring families at our school work together and are committed to the success of our students.

My Project

It is important that our classroom library has books featuring Black characters written by Black authors to support anti-racism, celebrate Black voices, and encourage inclusion. Books should serve as both a window and a mirror for students into the real world and children should see themselves and people who may be different from them in the books they read.

My students are Kindergarteners, at the beginning of their formal schooling, and I think it is crucial to start conversations about how to be an ally to people of color at a young age.

A diverse classroom library teaches students to be accepting of others and to understand that their experiences may be different. These books will allow our school community to continue fostering a truly inclusive, anti-racist school community that shows empathy for others and respects diversity and differences. Black Lives Matter!
