We Need Diverse Books to Teach Tolerance and Acceptance
My students need diverse books to help them learn tolerance and acceptance of others.

My Students
My students are the most inspiring children you will ever meet. They come from some of the roughest backgrounds being at a Title I school and yet they come in each day with a smile on their face and ready to learn. They are so eager to learn new things and collaborate with their peers.
Some of my students are on their own when it comes to learning at home because their parents do not speak English well, or not at all.
If they do speak English, most of their parents work jobs that do not allow them to spend the time helping their child with school work. This makes their time in the classroom crucial especially learning core subjects like reading and math. It stresses for me the importance of teaching them that they can dream and go far in life.
My Project
My students come from a mixed of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. These books would help them learn tolerance and acceptance of others who are different from them. Too often students of different ethnic backgrounds aren't able to see themselves in their classroom library so they feel as though the learning is not for them.
These books would help my students develop a love of reading and a deeper love of their culture and the cultures around them.
I would love to help them find a book that has them so entranced they can't wait to read more tomorrow and into the future!
