I teach students with autism in kindergarten through second grades in a high poverty school. As a teacher in a low-income school, my students face many struggles outside of school. All of the students at my school receive free lunches due to the poverty level, and because of this many of them are not able to experience things that many take for granted.
My students are silly, energetic, and love school.
We are in a self-contained school with students with autism ranging from kindergarten to 22 years old. We depend a lot on the use of visuals in the classroom to help the children be successful in their day. The students I serve have varying levels of skills and needs. My students need sensory support, visual support, and picture cues to be successful.
My students are eager about learning and love coming to school!
My Project
My students are kind, thoughtful, and hard workers who are building academic skills and social skills virtually that will help them become independent learners and thinkers through their experiences, inquiry, and action as they navigate our new normal of distance learning.
It is my goal to find materials and activities to help motivate and engage my students to participate in distance learning activities and in the classroom.
The students in my classroom need many direct teaching opportunities. The students in my classroom have varying levels of needs and are able to participate in distance learning with appropriate supports and modifications.
I would use these Teachers Pay Teachers gift card funds to purchase digital resources that will help my students with autism to maintain the skills taught during the school year.
