Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A day in our classroom is filled with reading, movement activities and math activities.
My students are lively first graders.
They like to tell stories, share books, listen to stories, and best of all read all by themselves. They have worked hard all year to be able to read independently. We are a school in a high poverty area. We want to end the school year strong, by having afternoon reading time. We have plenty of books, but not enough storage.
We also love to sing in class. We have a keyboard, but we need a keyboard stand so I can play it more comfortably.
My Project
The book shelf will provide a way for my students to access leveled readers independently. We have book containers sitting on a round table, but it would be better to have all the books leveled and organized on shelves. My students will be thrilled to be able to choose books at their level.
My project will make a difference in my classroom environment.
Since I have only been teaching first grade for four years, my classroom is still a little bare. I have a lot of book shelves, but they are not as accessible as I would like. That is why I am requesting the book shelves.
The keyboard stand will enable me to play the keyboard more comfortably, instead of placing it on a table.
