Reading in Kindergarten is a fundamental skill that we want all children to feel successful at. Through my years of teaching, I have created book boxes with my students to store their "Just Right Books." In the past, we've made our book boxes out of shoe boxes. This past year, the boxes were opened and closed so much they fell apart. We need book boxes that are sturdier!
My Project
My Kindergarten students are eager to learn how to read once they enter Kindergarten. As they become readers, it's important to increase their confidence in their ability to read. To do this, I provide my students with Just Right Books. We introduce these easy-to-read books by creating our book boxes.
My students will have the opportunity to decorate their book box with markers, stickers, and other craft materials.
This past year, our book boxes started to fall apart because they were so well loved. If I provide my students with sturdier, plastic book boxes, I will be able to let my students read to their heart's content. I will also be able to send my students' book boxes home, as the plastic book boxes will latch shut. These book boxes will help foster my students' love for reading and help them become more confident in their ability to read.
