My students need basic supplies, markers, and chairs for their classroom. We do not have enough chairs for our workstations and the teacher assistant does not have an adult sized chair to sit in.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The best and easiest way to describe my students is that they are survivors. My class is a dual language kindergarten classroom, and I am charged with teaching them Spanish, language arts, and math. I will have two classes, each consisting of 21 highly motivated and fully charged five-year-olds. My children and their families have been hit hard by Hurricane Harvey. Many of my families had to be evacuated, and our school sustained a lot of damage. We were teaching at a relocation site with the basics for 4 months. We cannot ask our parents for any type of supply after what they went through. My kids are happy to be back at their school, but we need some materials to replace what we lost during the hurricane. We hope these items would help my students adjust to yet another move and huge change in their little lives.

My Project

We are finally back at our home school and after setting up our classroom for a third time we find that we are missing basic classroom supplies. We need ink to print on our donated printer. We need Ziploc bags, envelopes, baby wipes, manila envelopes, markers, pencil pouches, brown paper bags, and batteries to run the classroom on a day to day basis. Anytime we send things home to the parents or need to replace batteries on our toys we will use these supplies. These supplies will also be used daily at the workstations. We need more headphones for our tablets and desktop computers. At times the kids have to share the technology and we use splitters but do not have enough working headphones. The smiley face erasers will be used on the various magnetic whiteboards in our classroom.

Most importantly, we need chairs so my assistant has an adult sized chair to sit in and so the kids do not have to be moving chairs from their desk to their workstation.

Moving the chairs is quite difficult for some of my kids and I cannot run my reading groups and move chairs at the same time. Having the extra chairs would allow me to transition from whole group to small group so much easier. I would be able to stay with my group instead of helping kids move chairs at every rotation (and we rotate 3 times).
