My Students

I teach students with autism in kindergarten through second grades in a high-poverty school. As a teacher in a low-income school, my students face many struggles outside of school. All of the students at my school receive free lunches due to the poverty level, and because of this many of them are not able to experience things that many take for granted.

My students are silly, energetic, and love school.

We are in a self-contained school with students with autism ranging from kindergarten to 22 years old. We depend a lot on the use of visuals in the classroom to help the children be successful in their day. The students I serve have varying levels of skills and needs. My students need sensory support, visual support, and picture cues to be successful.

My students are eager about learning and love coming to school!

My Project

My Project: The object of the school is to help students use art in the way they see the world. Having access to a variety of art supplies will allow students to increase their skills as artists, as well as help them know what they like and dislike. The more the kids are able to use a variety of materials, the more they are able to step outside their comfort zone and think creatively to get comfortable with new tasks.

My students need art supplies such as paintbrushes and paint.

Shrinking educational budgets hit the art classrooms hard: there is NO budget again this year. You can help to make a difference for my students! By helping to fund this project, my classroom will be ready for creative minds. Please help to give my students the opportunity to be creative!
