This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Today's educators have an additional responsibility to get students ready for the 21st century. This task has been made more difficult by the rapid growth in technology and the slow acquisition of money for classrooms.
My 24 students have young impressionable minds.
They live only minutes away from some of the most influential minds in technology. Think about Steve Jobs, Apple, Yahoo, and Google.
I have a great class of second and third graders who are so eager to try anything new. They are learning how to use tablets for educational purposes with apps. They also see how this technology can help their learning by reading books on the tablets. Logging on to our school's library is becoming second nature with them.
My Project
Our school is slowly acquiring tablets to use in the classrooms. Unfortunately, these resources are shared throughout the campus. We would love to have our very own iPad, case and stylus to use throughout every day of the school year. One iPad might not seem like a lot for the classroom, but with the use of the teacher-issued laptop and a program called Doceri, we can turn the computer and LCD projector into our own interactive whiteboard.
This class is so fun. They love learning and they love teaching me what they know.
As we move into the Common Core, we need students to be more engaged with their learning.
Using an iPad to help explain and teach each other will solidify the learning of the student as they take on the role of the "teacher" and it will support the learning for the entire class.
