We Need An Early Start To Become Financially Literate!
My students need an iPad and an iPad Case in order to access interactive, educational websites to help them understand concepts related to financial literacy.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
No one is born financially literate. In fact, it is an important skill that needs to be learned and taught in school at an early age in order for students to develop personal finance skills to be able to understand concepts related to business, responsible spending and money.
My students are English Language Learners attending a public school in California.
Our school is a Title 1 school and the majority of the students qualify for free lunch. They come from low income families where both parents work in order to maintain their household. Since they are English Language Learners they need as many visual aides and interactions when learning as possible to make their learning more meaningful and comprehensible. Unfortunately, at home my students don't have technological access due to economic hardships. The only place they are able to access technology is at school and our school is limited due to severe budget cuts. In fact, we have an old MAC computer that freezes every time my students try to access educational websites or any website for that matter.
My Project
My 1st Grade students need an iPad in order to access interactive educational websites and applications that will help them practice adding and identifying money, as well as making change with coins. They also need it to learn how to manipulate US Currency to be able to understand concepts related to finance, business, and responsible spending habits that are of critical importance to their economic future. With the iPad my students will be able to develop successful money management habits and develop financial responsibility. They will discover that a dollar doesn't go far, but with some sound advice and learning, it can be stretched! They also need the iPad Case to keep the iPad safe in order for them to learn financial literacy skills now and in the future. They can't learn financial literacy skills if the iPad gets damaged accidentally.
With your generous donations, my students will be able to have access to a functioning technological device that will help them access websites and applications to become financially literate.
Learning financial skills at an early age will help my students spend wisely, save more and make good financial choices in the future in order for them to be active contributors to our global economy. Thank you in advance for your generosity donors!
