My Students
If you need a confidence booster, visit a PreK classroom! My hair can be in a messy bun and someone will tell me I am beautiful. Any activity, big or small, is special to my students. These children are at the beginning of their educational journey and they radiate love and excitement. My students make me feel like I am making a difference each day while telling me that I smell better than birthday cake!
My Project
We need a technology option during this pandemic! Technology & interactive games are not something available at home to most of my low income students. When Covid hit our school, computers and Ipads were taken from the students as they are too difficult to sanitize and maintain. My students have never had a "normal" school year without masks and distancing.
This tool would not only provide much needed technology, but it will also add learning, collaboration, problem solving, sharing, and social interaction to the classroom.
Early childhood students thrive on interaction with adults and their peers. In some cases, especially during this pandemic, play must be taught. Due to quarantines and safety measures, basic social skills have been delayed for many. Some of these skills include: patience, taking turns, encouragement, and conflict resolution.This tool will be easy to sanitize and incorporate into my classroom. Educational games and apps are available for downloading to this table. Students will be able to color, practice handwriting, complete puzzles, work on math and literacy skills, and much more. There are also classic games such as Candyland and Chutes&Ladders.
Opportunities to teach them to play together, which I see is a skill many are lacking due to the pandemic, is a bonus. Exposure to technology in this day and age, is beneficial for all children. Virtual learning is here to stay and I want to give them a chance to learn how to use these tools.
