Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"College for certain!" My students chant this every morning because they are determined to go to college.
Although most of my students are from families below the poverty level, they bring a wealth of love, sincerity and a strong appetite for learning.
My students come to school every day ready to "show what they know" and work as a team to gain more knowledge. They attend a school where the day is extended and the school year is longer than all the schools in their community. The school teaches students to have a laser-like focus on college.
My Project
I am requesting high interest books to build a lending library for my students. At this time our school does not have a library where students can borrow books. Our neighborhood library is surrounded by drugs and other crime issues. I want them to be able to read for enjoyment, while increasing their reading levels. This will allow them to share a school library that leads to great conversations about what they are reading and suggestions to others. I want my students to know reading is contagious and fulfilling.
Many of my students are reading below their grade level because they do not have the resources to have a favorite author and read for enjoyment.
Donations to this request will make a difference because this will add to a school library where students can read about the lives of others. The broad impact this project will have on my students will be to improve their reading level and build a lifelong love for reading.
